West Coast Wednesdays: Fashawn

Photobucket Fashawn is my favorite rapper to show people who haven't heard too much west coast music. Coming out of Fresno, CA, his name might sound familiar from 2010 when he was chosen as part of XXL's Freshman Class. If you haven't listened to any of his tracks, I recommend starting with his collaborations. He has several songs featuring Ratatat - "Excuses" and "Jimmy" are below.

After meeting J. Cole when they were part of XXL's Freshman Class they began recording multiple tracks with each other ("Relaxation" is below). Other artists Fashawn worked with include Wiz Khalifa, Talib Kweli, Gilbere Forté, Ghostface Killah, Chevy Woods, Blu, Devin Miles, and more. On September 25th, he released an album with Murs called This Generation which can be downloaded at iTunes. He is scheduled to release his album Champagne and Styrofoam Cups on November 13th.

Below are the videos for "Life of a Shorty," "Sunny California," and "Papers (Remix)" along with download links for most of his mixtapes.

Download his mixtapes Grizzly City Vol 1 (2006), The Phenom Vol 1 (2007), Grizzly City Vol 2 (2007), The Phenom Vol 2 (2008), One Shot One Kill (2008), The Antidote (2009), Ode to Illmatic (2010), Grizzly City Vol 3 (2010), and Higher Learning 2 (2011).
