The beat in Kendrick Lamar's latest single mimics the echoing effect of sounds heard through water- or more importantly, the similar echo one might begin to feel after two many shots of their favorite vice. The chorus might be as close as Kendrick ever comes to a mainstream party joint, but the verses are anything but. Continuing his musical innovation, the emcee formerly known as K. Dot gives us the stories of others, as well as himself. We hear his subconscious thoughts. We hear how his mind changes once he goes past his limits, for better or for worse. A very entertaining listen from many angles, with an innovative video to match. Watch as the Compton superstar seemingly defies gravity, serving as a metaphor for the fall induced by alcoholism. And don't forget to look for good kid, m.A.A.d city, out October 2nd.
